2023 – National Theatre of Greenland // THE TRAVELLER (Performance Installation)

YOU CAN SEE THIS SHOW DURING CPH STAGE INTERNATIONAL DAYS :

THE SHOW : THE TRAVELLER

The Traveler is not a theater performance as we know it. It is an experience room for the audience. The inspiration comes from the sensory theatre. The audience gets to use their senses and imagination in a kind of journey through life. Small groups of 10 people are admitted at a time.

Duration: 30 min

THE CONTEXT

THE COMPANY: NATIONAL THEATRE OF GREENLAND

Nunatta Isiginnaartitsisarfia was established in 2011 is an independent public institution and aims to
produce a repertoire of high artistic quality performances rooted in the Greenlandic culture and
traditions. The Theatre produces 3-5 performances every year and presents a diversity of artistic
expressions for all age groups.

At Nunatta Isiginnaartitsisarfia in the summer of 2020 we created an experience that was strongly inspired by the sensory theatre. The project opened up a new way of meeting the audience and allowed our actors to work more experimentally than we have done so far. The experience ended with the audience being offered to write down their thoughts on paper and either hand the paper to us or keep it themselves.

INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY

Everyone is welcome to take part in this. One italian theatre director said after the experience ‘This is the atmosphere of Greenland’. That has not been the aim, but it made us happy and maybe otheres can get that feeling too.

FORMAT AND SUSTAINABILITY

“We have been working with reusing everything we already had at the theatre in stead of buying new things. In the end we did buy a few new things but very few. The performance will have a long lifetime.”
