OPEN CALL: CPH STAGEs International Days – Showcase + Pitch

DANISH SHOWCASE at CPH STAGE 2021

6 Danish works from all genres of the performing arts – live or digital – will be elected by a jury for CPH STAGE’s Danish Showcase. The works will be presented during the festivals International Days 2. – 4. June 2021. These works will receive special promotion and get the opportunity to be seen by international guests, members of the Danish industry and the English-speaking audiences in Copenhagen.

This year we are aiming at creating a hybrid festival – that is a festival with both digital and live programming. The jury will favor applicants whose performances have premiered. However taking the Covid-19 situation in consideration the jury will remain open to emerging works.

CPH STAGE supports the selected performances by offering a subsidize for a maximum of 20,000 DKK (excl. VAT) per project. In case of one unique grand work the Jury will be able to grant up to 40.000 dkk (excl. vat). However, the festival does not provide fully financial support to said productions.

Please note that selected works for CPH STAGE’s Danish Showcase 2021 will be launched at a two-day virtual event 3. – 4. February 2021.

PITCH opportunity at CPH STAGE 2021

Pitch June 3rd 2021: 8 works either in stages of pre-production or post-production with premieres in 2019/2021 will be selected by the jury to pitch their project. The pitch will also be produced as a video, which can also be used in your promotion of your work in the future.
To ensure the broadest support for all applicants, productions can only get selected in one category, for either Showcase or Pitch. However, interested applicants may apply for both categories.

COVID-19

Please note CPH STAGE is carefully following the Government’s guidance regarding Covid-19. The festival choose a flexible position and expect a collaboration with selected companies to find the best suitable solutions in presenting the works in a way that fits the current situation June 2021. We encourage applicants to consider digital ways to complement their presentation to an international audiences. CPH STAGE will advice and support this process.

Danish performing arts in the international arena

One of CPH STAGEs goals is to present international relevant performances of high quality to international guests. Our agenda with the curated national showcase is to advocate Danish Performing Arts in the international arena. The jury will emphasize performances of high quality with a genuine and ambitious international potential.

The Jury: The Jury consists of selected people with a great insight into the Danish and the international performing arts scene:

SARAH MELIN – curator and producer at Gothenburg Dance and Theatre festival + producer at Dansens Hus/Stockholm.

LIV HELM – award-winning director and new artistic leader at Husets Teater from July 2021.

MIRIAM FRANDSEN – Curator of international opening show at CPH STAGE + freelance dramaturge.

KAREN TOFTEGAARD – International producer of CPH STAGEs International Days + CEO at international strategy and touring company WILDTOPIA.

Transparency: Please note that all the names of the applicants will be published in an assessmen sheet after the jury’s meeting.

Commitment: When you works is selected for the Showcase or the Pitch you commit to participating in both two preparation workshops (January 2021 + April 2021) and a post-evaluation. Furthermore you commit to engage in continuous conversations with our international producer in order to make sure we reach the best suitable outcome from this strategic effort.
