The Traveler is not a theater performance, as we know it. It is an experience room for the audience. The inspiration comes from the sensory theatre. The audience gets to use their senses and imagination in a kind of journey through life. Small groups of 10 people are admitted at a time.

WHY THIS WORK WAS SELECTED
This work emanates the spirit of Greenland – unfolding a universe where you get to be a curious travelling explorer. Nunatta Isiginnaartitsisarfia – The National Theatre of Greenland has created a work that awakens people’s senses. A strength in this work is that it first and foremost speaks to the imagination and senses of everyone wandering into this magical universe –dissolving the notions of reality that gets left behind at the entrance.
THE CONTEXT
At The National Theatre of Greenland in the summer of 2020 we created an experience that was strongly inspired by the theatre of the senses. The project opened up a new way of meeting the audience and allowed our actors to work more experimentally than we have done so far. The experience ended with the audience getting the offer to write down their thoughts on paper and either hand the paper to us or keep it themselves. The feedback was many, warm, surprising and strong. Here are some brief examples:
“Strong, simple, very apt. Thank you for a beautiful experience!”
“What an experience. It put it all into perspective and it started some thoughts. I've been stressed and anxious for a few months, but I found a calmness tonight that I haven't had in months."
"Thank you for making me realize how important it is to be with yourself before passing that love on."
"A very intimate and sensorical experience with room for reflection and being in the moment."
As part of our foundation, we work to show our voice to the Greenlandic people and to the outside world through our theater performances. Our theater performances are like a breathing hole thatcreates space and room for reflection, contemplation and debate.
We have as some of our strategic goals that we will continuously work on cultivating new audience groups both locally, nationally and internationally. And that we will join local, national and international performing arts networks, with a view to developing and exchanging ideas, methods and experiences.

INTERNATIONAL STRATEGY
Everyone is welcome to take part in this. One Italian theatre director said after the experience, ‘this is the atmosphere ofGreenland’. That has not been the aim, but it made us happy and maybe others can get that feeling too.

FORMAT AND SUSTAINABILITY
“We have been working with reusing everything we already had atthe theatre instead of buying new things. In the end, we did buy a few new things but very few. The performance will have a long lifetime.”
