Total International (Lokal) is a performance that takes place simultaneously in two international venues. The performers are present in both localities via story telling, sound, image, and shared scores, mediated through various internet connections.
The performance extends one locality into the other, one stage into another stage, creating a mutual theatrical space, at once physical and virtual. The artists participating from the different geographic location do not meet to create the work, but develop and rehearse the work in distance.
The piece looks for sustainable ways of international collaborations: No flight trips to the international partners. The artist try to make this seeming restriction artistically productive: Do we really have to fly around and extend our planetary presence by increasing our CO2-footprint? What alternatives can be found? What artistic potential do they generate?
Duration: 70 min
By pitching the piece at Copenhagen Stage, the two artists look for venues who would like to invite local artists from within their context into a fruitful distance-specific collaboration with Barkan/Liebmann - with the aim of performing a version of Total International (Lokal), or Liebmann/Barkan will travel to the venue by train and then connect to another performance in the world which by that way can be made present at the venue without travelling there, bringing distance and imagining together.
