Today, the theatre festival CPH STAGE can announce the complete performance programme, which will be presented during the festival on June 1-10 in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. The festival invites the audience to experience some of the best Danish and international performing arts. The program offers both an international queer neo-circus, a rom-com about infertility and then everyone can hop on a party bus around Copenhagen. There are also up to several companies and theatres from the rest of the country visiting the festival, as well as the audience can experience two performances from Greenland.
FORBIDDEN FEELINGS
It becomes both complex, touching and sometimes destructive when the forbidden emotions are set in the scene. In the acclaimed Scottish performance 'The Chosen Haram', two men swing around in poles as a story about Islam, love and drugs unfolds. A queer neo-circus performance about social and cultural barriers. Things will be different when 2022's perhaps most talked-about Danish production, 'The Cannibal', starring Morten Burian is re-staged at the Royal Danish Theatre. In a darkened hall, the audience's senses sharpen while the bestial and at the same time touching love story develops.
It's not just the classic love that's being worked up at the festival this year. One of the most discussed topics of our time, infertility, is also portrayed with strong women on stage. The company DanskDansk and Mungo Park presents the performance 'Rebound' — a theatre rom-com starring actress Marie Lydie. Betty Nansen Theatre
resumes the audience success of 'I am gold' with Royal Ballet dancer Astrid Grarup Elbo on stage, portraying the grief and desperation of childlessness with confetti and tap dancing.
POP, GLITTER AND PARTY
It becomes equal parts wild, community critical and alluring as theaters stage pop culture and invite celebration. Discover last year's totally sold out performance 'Work Bitch' by Akt1, which is based on Britney Spears' emancipation. The audience will also have the opportunity to go on a bus tour around the city when Aarhus Theatre presents the performance 'Til de lys Morgen', which delves into the human need for escapism, community and celebration.
The staging stronghold, YouTube, takes centre stage in the dance performance, The YouTuber, by The Nordic Beasts, in which a murder mystery must be solved. And then Folketeatret presents their traditional and always brightly coloured format SHAKES, which this time humorously takes on Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' in Hans Christian Ørstedsparken.
THEATRE FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY
CPH STAGE is once again a welcome opportunity to experience performing arts from all over the country, and this year the festival can even present two performances from Greenland. At Aveny-T you can experience, among other things, a generational meeting between the young Greenlandic rapper Josef Tarrak and the older actor Else Danielsen in the performance 'Your Story is also Min' by Teater FreezeProductions and Naleraq Lights. In addition, the Greenland National Theatre hosts the festival with the interactive performance 'The Traveller', which invites the audience on a sensual journey.
Within Denmark, Holstebro Theatre and Dansekompagni visit the festival with the glittering dance performance 'BJÖRK' by Gunilla Lind. Kristian Ingimarsson Company, based in Vordingborg, will blow the audience away with the breathtaking performance 'ROOM 4.1. Live', which plays at AFUK. In addition, several groups from Aarhus are visiting the festival, including the power company DON GNU with the performance 'Turist' and internationally renowned Granhøj Dans with the performance 'Stone — Face — Book. And then the Funen theatre Slotsgården presents the youth comedy 'Misantropia' at Teater V.
